Industry Tour: Water and Irrigation Tour of San Antonio

Saturday, Dec. 5, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

San Antonio is the largest city in the U.S. that depends almost exclusively on groundwater. The Edwards Aquifer supports irrigated agriculture, manufacturing, major water sporting and tourism, and is the source of two of Texas’ largest springs.

Due to limited water supplies and competition for these supplies, San Antonio has implemented innovative water conservation programs and water reuse systems. The tour is hosted by the Irrigation Technology Center in cooperation with the San Antonio River Authority, San Antonio Water System and the Edwards Aquifer Authority.

The tour will include:

  • Downtown water works that help maintain the world famous Riverwalk and capture storm water for reuse.
  • Portions of the city’s 80 miles of blue pipeline system for distribution of recycled water used in irrigation.
  • The ITC's Drought Simulator and the future home for the ITC and Texas A&M University at San Antonio.
  • Groundwater recharge structures and facilities for managing the Edwards Aquifer.
  • The Twin Oaks Aquifer Recovery and Storage Facility.
  • The traditional irrigation systems of the Spanish missions.

Advanced registration is required for this event, seating is limited.
